So how did Noisy Women come to be …

On 21 April 2020, at the start of COVID, I was sitting in the garden talking to my son working through a difficult situation I was dealing with in an organization I was involved with …  I had been very frank in one of my emails about an issue that I felt had been handled in an unfair and potentially discriminatory way.  I was not impressed by the way that a situation was being dealt with. I had the evidence to back up my position and was dealing with the situation in the way I have always dealt with such things. Firmly!  My son (a young management consultant working at Accenture at the time), had choked on his drink and said ‘Mum, you cannot go around say things like that …. ‘ (I'm an Employment Lawyer and former Employment Judge ... so believe me … I had been very direct).  I am glad to say, that my son and I can have different perspectives and passionate discussions about how to deal with situations, and always 'learn' from each other.  I drummed home the fact that people who are prepared to stand up and be counted, or who are assertive and speak out about what ‘is not working’, particularly women, instead of being ‘timid / calm / apologetic’ (whatever you want to call it) in the way that they handle challenging issues, are more often than not labelled as being aggressive or difficult or hormonal, or some other such rubbish, instead of direct, straightforward, clear or assertive, as a man would be viewed.

Our conversation ended up with me stating, “I’m a noisy woman, and I am proud of it!  I always have been and I always will be. It's what has made me successful in life, and no one,  and certainly no one on that Board, is going to shut me up or stop me from doing what I believe is the right thing.”

I stormed off, thinking 'Noisy Women' would make a great name for a company and came back an hour later having purchased the company.  I declared that I was going to set up Noisy Women, and create a space that supported other Noisy people on the planet who were out to make a difference in the world.  He laughed, was excited for me, and challenged me to start a 'podcast'.  Mmm .... And in true management consultant style he even gave me some targets to meet!  Oh dear ... now I had put it out there, I knew I would have to deliver.

I was excited about it. Of course I was (I later found out I have ADHD - which explains a lot about my life), and yet, I struggled with the name 'Noisy Women' because my ambitions go further than creating a safe space for women to explore who they are in the world and how to become their authentic selves in the society that we live in. I have a son, and a male partner and so many other people in my life who would not identify as a 'noisy women', and, although we may have the same needs and objectives in life, they would feel excluded by the name alone.

I want to create a world that works, that includes everyone, and I want everyone to be comfortable in their own skin.

So I have created space here for all the noisy people out there who want to join us, that includes a space for everyone else who does not identify as a noisy woman, a separate, but not really separate, organization operating under the name 'Peaceful Progress' (launching soon) to help entrepreneurs and leaders focus on their passions in life, their relationships and their mental wellbeing.

I'm a lawyer and an entrepreneur, and my main business, is currently running a multi-site healthcare business, on which a lot of people rely on me to be the Chief Exec and 'lead' the business, so I've been a little bit busy.  It has take me longer than I thought it would to get Noisy Women up and running ... and make more of my dreams come true.

And yet, nothing is wasted, I firmly believe that 'stuff happens the way it does' because it is not the right time. Yes, sometimes, the right time never comes, and we move on, and yet I believe that the life you truly want to create, will always come about, when all of the pieces start falling  into place.  And that knock on the door becomes too loud to ignore.  So, all I have done in the meantime, that has allowed me to survive COVID, restructure my businesses, support others to set up theirs, grow my relationships, build new homes, meet the people I needed to work with to explore what noisy women and peaceful progress have the potential to be; and all the transformative relationship, business and health experiences in between, have led me here. To the right place at the right time ... for me.

I have been making a difference where it matters ... and now that I am in a place where I can move forward with this particular dream, watch this space ... and please join me ... there is so much more we can do together.

If you want a safe space to explore what it is to be noisy and passionate and effective in the world,  and you want to work on what it takes to create a world that works, and create peaceful progress, then get in touch and work with us to make it happen.  I look forward to working with you.
